“Do you know what today is? It’s our anniversary!” -Tony Toni Tone
Happy Anniversary to my husband of 10 years!
When we were dating, like many couples, we made each other mix CD’s. Mixtapes were already on their way out back in 2000.
Even our wedding favor was a CD with a collection of our favorite songs.
Now we’re on to play lists, right? Technology has come a long way. Here are the 5 new songs I’d like to add to our soundtrack if I may.
Dear…I dedicate all these songs to you. I may not get butterflies in my stomach, but when I hear these songs I get goose bumps because they make me think of you. I love you. Enjoy!
Juicy by Biggie Smalls. Okay, so this song is not romantic at all! But I love it! Every time I hear it, I’m reminded of when we first moved into our condo. This song was the anthem! It was on repeat while we painted and got our house ready to move in. Don’t laugh, but this is when I really learned all the words to this song, baby, baby!
On a serious note, I think I loved this song even more because in some ways we could relate…we came from nothing to something, we did what others may have thought was impossible for us. We may not have been slanging in the hood, but we was hustlin’ fo sho!
Because of You by Keith Martin. This song was unexpectedly performed live by our good friends during the sand ceremony at our wedding. It wasn’t the song we chose, but it was a nice surprise, and I think it was meant to be. I don’t listen to it a lot but when I do, I think of our wedding day! It’s one of the songs I do remember.
I can honestly say that my life has changed since knowing you. And you continue to change my life, always for the better. Even for those brief times when we are at our worst. That’s when I know that we are in this for the long haul. You’ve always had my back and you have always supported me in everything I do. My dreams have come true. You’ve given me two beautiful children and you provide for us every day. I’m a better person today and “I want the world to see it’s because of you!”
I’m Gonna Love You, Like I’m Gonna Lose You by Meghan Trainor ft. John Legend. I remember crying my eyes out when I first heard this song. It still gets me when it comes on the radio. I seem to lose things every day, but I would never want to lose you – under any circumstance. It’s such a bitter sweet promise to know that I’m yours and you’re mine until death do us part. I want to love you every day with no regrets because as the bible says, tomorrow is never promised. Let’s please continue to live for today together.
Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. Marriage is never easy, and I will admit these last three years have been the toughest. Living with my parents our first year as a married couple was easy compared to growing our family. Having to take care of little people who keep us apart more than they bring us together has been one of the most challenging part of being married, of being a mother and a woman in general. My goodness, they take a lot out of me, and of you. And I am so sorry that sometimes they take your seat as #1. I am working on that. This song is so beautiful, and the music video is one of my favorites. I never told you, but this song helped me through some of those tough times when I felt like things were falling apart, when I felt alone and when I thought nothing was going to change. It reminds me that no matter where we are in our lives, in our marriage, love conquers all. Just know I’ll be loving you til’ we’re 70 and beyond!
The Way You Look Tonight sung by Kris Allen. When I heard Kris Allen sing this song on American Idol I was pregnant with Alana. It’s one of the first songs I sang to her, and now it’s one of the songs I sing to both our babies to help put them to to sleep. I often wonder if you hear me singing to them. I try to sing my best in case you are. I picture you looking at me, looking at our babies and hope you’re proud to have me as your wife and the mother of our children. I hope you find comfort in knowing that they are in good hands. I’m adding this song because because it reminds me of what we’ve created together as husband and wife. And someday when I’m awfully low, and the world is cold, I will feel a glow just thinking of you, and our babies – our family!
Happy Anniversary, Dear! I love you and I admire your strength, your loyalty and commitment to our family. I know some days are harder than others, but thank you for sticking around. I know one day we will gain everything we have been praying for and more, as long as we keep moving forward, keep praying and never give up!
For now, let’s count our blessings, be thankful for these 10, actually 16 years together, and remain faithful.
Cheers to another 10…20…30…40…even 50 years of growing crazy together.
I wonder what other songs we could add to this list?!
