Back in the day, before we had Pinky, I used to spoil Daddy. I showered him with gifts, took him on trips. And of course, he did the same. Now, as you can imagine, Pinky gets all the spoiling.
Daddy does so much for our family, he deserves to be spoiled once in a while. For his birthday this year, I was so excited for the opportunity to do just that! Thanks to a little help from a few of my friends downtown, I was able to put together the ultimate birthday celebration! Let me share our itinerary with you.
After our morning breakfast with Pinky at Cafe 56 in Rancho Penesquitos, we dropped her off to Grandma and Grandpa’s for another sleepover! This was a little difficult for the both of us because she had been sick all week, but everything worked out fine. As much as I wanted to surprise Daddy, I had to tell him all my plans in order to convince him to let Pinky sleep over.
Here’s how the rest of our perfect staycation went…
Hotel Palomar San Diego, A Kimpton Hotel
From the moment we pulled up to Hotel Palomar San Diego, A Kimpton Hotel to valet our car we were both spoiled! Entering the large, beautiful iron door meant we were locked in for a night of fun and pampering. I love the smell as you enter the lobby, scents of relaxation! Check in was super easy, and every team member was overly accommodating. If we needed anything at all, they were at our service, before I could even ask!
We were escorted delightfully to room 1009. Actually, it was more like a luxury condo, bigger than our place for sure. I was pleasantly surprised that we had been given the Luxury & Artful Skyline Suite for our one night stay! The suite was complete with a Keurig Tea and Coffee Maker, (2) flat screen TV’s, a lounge area (2) bathrooms. One bathroom was simple, but the other was gorgeous, including a his and her sink, soak tub and rain shower. We were in heaven!
Hospitality is #1 in my book. I always tell wherever we are staying the reason for our visit to make sure they make it extra special. As we entered our suite, we were greeted by a bottle of One Hope Wine, fresh fruit and a warm welcome card!
The absolute best part of the suite was our bed! It was so big and sexy! Extremely inviting and comfortable. The headboard was my favorite feature.
We quickly dropped our bags and our clothes, and jumped into these fun and fabulous animal print robes! At first I thought Daddy wasn’t going to wear his, but he did!
Sè Spa
Sè Spa is located on the 3rd floor of Hotel Palomar. I have always loved how the hospitality industry is so, well hospitable, Hotel Palomar is no exception. Again, having a little one has it’s challenges, but that didn’t stop us from having the best spa treatment ever. You see, I had to re-schedule our appointment three times that day, and the staff was very accommodating. Thank you Oliver, Tamara and Spa Manager, Courtney Leyva for making room for us!
Daddy is not a big fan of massages…he doesn’t like anyone touching him, except for me! After attending the re-launch of Sè Spa in May, I jumped at the opportunity to purchase a spa treatment at 40% off. After a few glasses of wine I decided, that The Couples Moroccan Rasul would be the perfect gift.
As described, The Couples Moroccan Rasul is a classically styled steam room where traditional mud cleansing rituals are enjoyed. An exotic interior with enveloping herbal steam provides the perfect backdrop as you are shrouded in smooth silky mud.
The description also mentioned that couples will “cleanse, relax and connect”. I was sold! This was exactly what we needed. Personally, the absolute best part about this spa treatment, is that it involves only you and your significant other!
When Daddy found out this was part of the plan, he was a bit unsure about what I was getting him into, but he went along with it anyway. During and after the treatment, he was ranting and raving about his experience. We were already planning on when we would come in again. Let me break it down for you.
Step 1: Enter the relaxation room and enjoy a cup of tea or ice cold water.
Step 2: Strip down and enter your own personal steam room! Be careful though, the tiles are hot!
Step 3: Rub Moroccan Rasul clay all over your body/each others body! It smells so good.
Step 4: Relax and breathe in bursts of eucalyptus.
Step 5: Spend an intimate time under the rain shower to rinse off.
Step 6: Relax again, head back to your room and sleep! Or like us, we got ready for dinner!
Here is Daddy after the Moroccan Rasul looking super relaxed…ready to go back to our suite.
As a special perk, Sè Spa currently offering our readers a 50 Minute Medley Massage or 50 Minute Customized Facial for just $85 (not including gratuity). A great opportunity to come in and experience the spa for yourself.
I don’t think we realize just how good we have it here in San Diego! Our stay at Hotel Palomar San Diego reminded me of how blessed we were to be natives of America’s Finest City! The weather, the luxury, the art, the people…the list goes on. Daddy and I didn’t need to leave the hotel for anything. Our car stayed where it belonged, parked!
After our relaxation and pampering session, we headed downstairs to one of San Diego’s finest dining establishments, Saltbox Dining & Drinking. Know for their bountiful, fun and creative menu, Saltbox celebrates the art of food and the cocktail in sleek style! The ambiance is so chic, yet so laid back. One of the great things about Saltbox, something I haven’t experienced at any other hotel, is that they provide room service until 3am! They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails creations!
Everything we ordered was bursting with flavor, but our favorite were the Beef Cheek Tacos! We also enjoyed the shrimp ceviche tacos, lobster corn dogs, the chopped lobster cobb and the steak frits an all natural grilled ribeye, red wine shallot sauce. Mmmm…my mouth waters just thinking about their menu!
And we can’t forget the birthday cake. Thank God for the internet and online menus. I was excited that they served Daddy’s favorite cake, Tres Leches Cake! That little cake was probably the only surprise of the evening. I secretly told our waitress our order, and asked for a candle too! I don’t care how old you are, candles are a must! Wishes come true no matter how old we get!
Our night didn’t end here! We rocked out to the 80’s right next door and the infamous House of Blues San Diego for the Tainted Love Concert. Not being as youthful as we used to, we crashed early. Really we just wanted to enjoy our amazing suite. The Keurig Tea and Coffee Maker actually came in handy that night and early the next morning as we got ready for one final adventure — our Brothels, Bites and Booze Walking Tour with So Diego Tours!
Luckily we were able to leave our car at the hotel even after checking out. Another feature I’ve been dying to try at the hotel, and finally had the opportunity to is, text for your car! Since we had the luxury of taking our time, I took a seat, sent a text message to the number on the card below and watched through the window as valet instantly received my request. I was amazed at how quickly they moved. Pretty neat, right?
I chose to celebrate Daddy’s Birthday at Hotel Palomar San Diego because of it’s hospitality and distinctive style. As a boutique hotel surrounded by top San Diego theaters, restaurants, shops and attractions it was the hotel of choice for me to spoil the husband. They truly offer a unique experience, even for us locals, from the accommodations, to the amenities, to the unsurpassed service. As a part of the Kimpton Family, Hotel Palomar is also an Eco-friendly hotel focusing on sustainability, just as much as style!
There were so many luxurious features and amenities that we didn’t get to experience during our one night stay, but that gives us all the more reason to return. What we did experience was amazing across the board. All in all, “a perfect day”!
If you haven’t stayed at Hotel Palomar San Diego — you must. Book your next staycation (or vacation) today!

How awesome does this sound? The husband and I will have to plan a staycation one of these weekends and head over to check it out! I know I LOVED the Moms Night Out hosted there so I’m sure I’d love everything else.
