We received a complimentary meal to preview the new Flower Child restaurant. All opinions are my own.
San Diego is home to some of the best restaurants.
Many of our family’s favorite spots offer organic, farm-to-table delicious dishes and great vibes. It’s the combination of these elements that keep us coming back craving for more.
If you’re anything like us, then you’ll fall in love with Flower Child from Fox Restaurant Concepts, the team behind True Food Kitchen.
Their motto is, “healthy food for a happy world!” And it shows in their flavors, their hospitality and their ambiance.
My husband and I were invited to an exclusive preview, which made for a much needed date night, at their newest location at the Flower Hill Mall in Del Mar. So fitting, right? Flower Child restaurant at the Flower Hill Mall! Sounds like a garden of happiness. I wonder if they did that on purpose.
I couldn’t get over how welcoming the place was.
Everywhere I turned, I felt encouraged, motivated…even loved. Just being in their space made me feel healthy. Lots of bright colors and a ton of fresh flowers.
Okay, I know you’re wondering what I ordered. My mouth is starting to water just thinking about my meal. Before I reveal what I had for dinner let me tell you, it was a challenging decision.
My sister makes fun of me when we go out to eat. She says I always have a “special” order. I can’t argue with her though. I do like to ask for substitutions and I often ask my server what their favorite dishes are. You can’t blame me! Or can you?
Anyway, I had no time for special orders, but I did ask people for their suggestions. And I was pleased with the results.
Flower Child has a big selection of food choices – wraps, apps, bowls, salads, soups, desserts and kids meals. They pride themselves in serving local produce and providing gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options. They literally have something for everyone.
So, what did we order?
My husband and I got our own bowls with a protein of our choice. We also added a mix ‘n’ match of 3 side dishes. Not pictured because I devoured it is a pumpkin muffin. Oh my goodness, it was small, but it packed a lot of flavor.
My husband is a bug curry fan so he got the Madras Curry dish with all-natural chicken. This dish is packed with organic potato, heirloom carrots, green beans, sweet onion, cilantro, garam masala and coconut.
Since I can eat breakfast all day, I went with the Late Riser with grass-fed steak, and a glass of their Tuscan red, on tap! The Late Riser has cage-free eggs, heirloom bean, quinoa, roasted chili, salsa, avocado, corn, Greek yogurt and queso blanco. Yum!
And they had the most cleaver survey card I’ve seen in a long time.
Here’s a close up of my perfectly cooked meat!
I recently had a conversation with a parent who is a vegetarian. I love hearing how people eat clean. I asked her if her husband ate the same way she did and she laughed, “NO! He says I don’t eat food, I eat side dishes!” I thought that was hilarious. Then I met Flower Child and thought, hey why not. They sell side dishes with protein as an option.
We tried their Spicy Japanese Eggplant with Thai basil and cashew, their Gluten-Free Mac & Cheese and wait for it… Yuzu Brussels Sprouts in golden miso, toasted garlic and sprouted almonds. It was hands down my favorite side.
S. Truett Cathy said it best, “Food is Essential to life, therefore make it good.”
I really enjoyed everything about Flower Child. The food is amazing and affordable. My husband and I agreed that it would be a great place for breakfast, especially after a run, or doing some shopping!
The event planner in me envisioned a big party in my future in the lower level or patio. The space is so colorful and inviting. We’ll definitely be back again, maybe even with the kiddos.
Flower Child officially opens to the public on Tuesday, December 6th. Check them out and let us know what you think in the comments below.
