I love seeing all the first day of school photos. You know the ones with the signs in front of the home. It’s always fun to compare how much the kids have grown over the year. Last year Pinky started Kindergarten at a public charter school. The weeks before were so emotional. The night before, I could hardly sleep. I wanted the transition for her to be as perfect as it could be, for the both of us, but mostly for her. I packed her lunch, helped pick out her clothes and we read a special book, On the Night Before Kindergarten. I was relieved that she was excited for her new adventure.
I really wanted to do first day of school photos, nothing crazy that would take my attention away from the big things, just something we could do easily every year. I didn’t have a chalk board or white board ready to go, but I did have an hp printer, that of course was low on ink, Picmonkey and some design skills at my disposal. I decided to create a quick first day of school sign to commemorate the occasion. Here are Pinky’s infamous first day/last day of school photos side-by-side. I still can’t grasp how fast they grow.
This year I made the same sign on Picmonkey. Picmonkey is a free very easy to use design and photo editing tool. They have a great library of fonts and graphics, plus you can upload your own. I used the fonts Unkepmt and Eraser Dust and for the images used the School U theme. The apple is under “overlays” and the arrows are under “dashed & lines.” If you want to create and customize your own you can do that with my notes below.
Or you can download these. Just click on the image below, right click and save to your computer, print, attach to a clipboard or print on heavy card stock, snap your pic by the front door and head off to school. They are set to print out as an 8×10.
Don’t see your grade here, shoot me an email at angela.quisumbing@gmail.com and I’ll make one for ya’! Enjoy!

Hi Candy. Yes, I love that even the high school kids are still taking pics to commemorate their first day of school! One of my mom friends has 4 kids in elementary and middle school. I told her how nice it was for her to get a photo of them together with their signs…she said, “they don’t have a choice!” I thought that was funny. I bet they will look back on these photos and appreciate them though. Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you, Kim. It means a lot coming from a kindergarten teacher.

Carol, I appreciate your kind words. The first day of school was always an exciting time for me growing up. A little nerve wracking too, but always fun! Wishing all the kiddos a successful and adventurous year ahead.
