It’s been a while since I shared a personal date night post with you, but this one is so worth sharing. Daddy and I have become quite the avid show goers since we became parents. Ever since we laid eyes on the Broadway San Diego 2012-13 schedule Daddy claimed Rock of Ages!
Rock of Ages has been the best Broadway experience thus far. We totally felt like we were in a rock ‘n’ roll concert most of the time, the other times we felt like we were part of a comedy show. The Narrator, rude and lewd with an attitude (reminded me a little of Jack Black) brought another element to our experience as he so comically engaged with the audience. Did I mention there was a live band?
The musical selections and renditions melted into the story line so creatively…the story of “a small town girl, livin’ in a lonely world” and “a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit,” (Michigan)! Sound familiar? Duh, it’s Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” – you better believe we were rockin’ out to that number.
Can I confess that I almost teared when Sherrie started singing “More Than Words” by Extreme! Rock of Ages had us on a serious musical high! The theater was packed with lovers of 80’s music, outrageous outfits and big hair! I gotta give it up to the man siting a few rows in front of us, he was rockin’ out to every song, reliving the old days, hands in the air and all! Hey, I couldn’t contain myself either.
The cast was amazing, the choreography hot and sexy, the music can’t say enough! I can only speak for myself on this one but some of my personal favorites were “Waiting for a Girl Like You, by Foreigner, ” Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” by Poison, “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon, “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi! The entire setlist was epic.
Rock of Ages started with a spark, and it ended with a bang, a big one! Loved the ending! Go see it for yourself!
Daddy and I give Rock of Ages 4 Pinky’y Up! I’d watch it again..but I’ll save the seats for you. Rock of Ages is now playing here in San Diego until Sunday, April 1st.
