If you don’t know already, Mommy is a regular contributor on San Diego Bargain Mama, a wonderful and resourceful website that celebrates local value! My particular column is called, Celebrate Creatively where I share ways families can have fun and save! Earlier this month I had the opportunity to share on Chanel 6 with Heather Myers how families can Celebrate Creatively on Valentine’s Day.
By foregoing expensive gifts and getting in touch with your creative side, the day of love can and will be one to remember! Think DIY projects, like paper flowers and homemade chocolate covered strawberries…and don’t forget to stuff those cards with something special. One of our favorite deal sites is Deal Me In Today where you can save up to 90% off a variety of local products and services! If you’re a last minute shopper, you must sign up with them today! It’s not too late to get ½-off food and drink at Prospect Bar and Grill in La Jolla or pay only $10 for (4) tickets to The Comedy Store in La Jolla . These gifts are perfect for future date nights! Click here to sign up, and use promo code “Bargain Mama” for an ADDITIONAL 20%-off your next purchase!!
Here are a few more ways you can Celebrate Creatively this Valentine’s Day. Enjoy!
- Celebrate at home. Make a nice home cooked meal, bake festive cookies with the kids! Memories are easy to make at home.
- Celebrate on a different day. If you want to go out to celebrate Valentine’s Day, go on a different day to avoid the chaos and overspending. Prices for anything that has hearts on it go way up!
- Celebrate outside. This may not be as practical since we heavy rain is settling in, but hey think of it as an adventure! Grab an umbrella and strap on your rain boots. Take a romantic walk on the beach or a stroll in the park. Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday, head over to Balboa Park and take advantage Resident Free Tuesdays.
- Forget roses. Roses and flowers in general are in high demand this time of year. If you must buy real flowers, try something other than the typical dozen red roses. Tulips are a good alternative. Also, you will save at least 35-45% if you buy flowers from your local grocery store as opposed to flower shops.
- Love. No matter what you do, tell the people around you how much you love them today, and everyday!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Mommy
