Mixed Martial Arts has become the latest phenomenon of our athletic generation.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, including boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Karate, Judo and other styles. -Wikipedia
Ever since I met Daddy, he has always had a love for martial arts. He’s pretty quiet about what he does, but I always have a tendency to tell people for him! Daddy practices Filipino Martial Arts, it’s very rare here in the states, at least from what I know. I used to train with him too, and enjoyed it, then I go pregnant and that was that.
Anyway, he’s tried a few other arts, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our family has always been into watching the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) UFC events on TV so it was only fitting that we watch, WARRIOR by Gavin O’Connor! After all, we did get two free screening passes to see it before it was released on September 9th! We decided to use this as our date night.
It was our first time gong to the movies in such a long time, and it was interesting to go out on a Wednesday night. I’m seriously considering dating on the weekdays, because it’s much less crowded than on the weekends. The funny thing is that WARRIOR was playing at the same theater we had our very first date – La Jolla 12. It made for a few inside jokes and laughs which was nice.
As for the movie, it was actually pretty intense. It was not your typical fighting movie, it had a decent storyline that made me shed a few tears. It was about family, survival and reconciliation. And the fighting scenes were crazy. Daddy even said that the movie made him want to start practicing jiu-jitsu again.I’m just glad we enjoyed our date night!
According to Box Office Mojo, WARRIOR actually ranked #3 in the box office during its opening weekend, and up to date has made $5,242,107! That’s pretty amazing.
Go out and watch the movie, we give it 2 Pinky’s Up! Check out the movie trailer and synopsis below for more information.
SYNOPSIS
Rising stars Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton command the screen as two estranged brothers facing the fight of a lifetime in Lionsgate’s WARRIOR, a moving, inspirational action drama from acclaimed director Gavin O’Connor (Miracle).
Haunted by a tragic past, Marine Tommy Conlon (Hardy) returns home for the first time in fourteen years to enlist the help of his father (Nick Nolte) to train for Sparta, the biggest winner-takes-all event in mixed martial arts history. A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brendan (Edgerton), an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin. But when Brendan’s unlikely, underdog rise sets him on a collision course with the unstoppable Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in the most soaring, soul stirring, and unforgettable climax that must be seen to be believed.
