It’s the first of July and summer is already in full swing! What are your plans for this 4th of July weekend? Do you and your family have a bucket list of things to before the summer ends like my friend Joann Woolley? If so, be sure to add these fun activities to your list, if not, this is a good place to start. Although San Diego may be one of the most expensive places to live, fortunately we still have several affordable activities that the whole family will enjoy as you celebrate summer!
On Friday, I was fortunate to share the following activities with Rene Kohn on my very first television segment on Channel 6 The CW’s San Diego Living! Hence the photo with the beautiful Renee herself! It was such an amazing experience which once again was presented by Stacey Ross, founder of San Diego Bargain Mama whom I was representing. Please check out their website and take a gander at my column, Celebrate Creatively.
Before I move, on I have to give a shout out first to Daddy who supported me, encouraged me, believed in me and helped me practice the night before the show! While waiting anxiously for my segment I met a few cool peeps! I was so happy to be sharing the show with Amanda Opaluch, foodie and founder of The Cilantropist! You’ll be the star of your family BBQ when you walk in with her super easy and delicious Red, White and Blueberry Tart this weekend. Here we are after my segment and right before hers!
I also shared the show with a group of excited kids who were participating in San Diego Summer Zoo Camps, Carol Young Moses of IC Artistry who shared tips on how not to melt in the sun this summer, and more. Tiffany, segment producer for San Diego Living was so awesome at helping me prep my for the show. Even David in facilities was helpful giving me a tour of the greem room upon my arrival! My goodness, I can’t say enough wonderful things about Renee. She really helped guide me through the segment. So without further adieu here are those affordable summer activities the family can enjoy!
Fireworks Shows There are several fireworks shows happening throughout San Diego. I’m sure if you find a good spot, you’ll be able to watch multiple shows at the same time. My family used to watch them from my grandma’s backyard. From there we could see Mission Bay, Sea World and even hear some fireworks in La Jolla! This year we’re trying something different by having a staycation at the Be sure to check the website and verify where the shows are because some of the usual locations won’t be hosting a show due to budget cuts or environmental restraints.
Coaster 2 for 1 Fare Take an adventure and explore San Diego on the coaster! This offer is available every Sunday throughout the summer, and on July 4th of July! This is a great outing for the whole family, not to mention a good alternative to driving and spending money on gas!
Free Summer Concerts are another fun way to enjoy the summer outdoors. San Diego has a great line up of free concerts happening pretty much every week. Pack some sandwiches, drinks, your lawn chairs and enjoy the music, and be sure to dance with your kids.
$1 Movies Watch a movie for only a $1 at participating Regal, United Artists, and Edwards theaters on select days. Beat the heat and cool down with the kids for way less than a normal visit to the theaters would be, say $50-75. Am I close?
Library Activities Your local library offers a ton of incentive programs to keep your kids reading all summer long. They also have fun events such as talent shows and story time that are all FREE to the community.
San Diego Botanic Garden Enjoy a beautiful nature walk FREE, every First Tuesday of the month. Thursday’s are Family Fun Nights with concerts by Hullabaloo, story time, crafts and other fun activities all included with admission.
You can find more details for all of these places and more on the San Diego Bargain Mama website. Don’t forget to watch our segment on the San Diego Living website homepage (will share here soon)! Finally, tune in again to San Diego Living this Tuesday for and watch Chelsea Skaggs, another San Diego Bargain Mama columnist, cook it up in the kitchen! Enjoy your summer everyone! Thank you for your support!
