Daddy and I have dined at several of San Diego’s finest restaurants and eateries. After last week we can add the La Jolla Strip Club to our list of faves. I started this list on my BlackBerry titled, “I wanna try…” followed by a long list of local restaurants “I wanna try!” Every week we are stumped with the question, “where do you wanna go?” We can never decide, so we end up eating some place mediocre, or a place we’ve already been to enough times. It’s not so bad, but when you want to spice up your Date Nights, let alone your marriage, you don’t just go with the norm. Thus, the list, which was created one sleepless night last week. First on the list, La Jolla Strip Club!
Somehow we found ourselves at BJ’s Brewery in La Jolla. I really wanted to indulge in the ever-so-popular Pazookie. We’ve never dined there before and it was on my list, however after being told we had to wait a daunting 35 minutes we decided to head on over to the La Jolla Strip Club and I’m glad we did.
If you’ve never been to the La Jolla Strip Club, it’s strictly a 21 and up venue. We entered a round about door and were greeted by the hostess. She asked us if was our first time, which was nice because it actually was. She explained the menu options to us and although we were hungry and tired from a long day, we decided to grill our own steaks, which is essentially what the restaurant is know for. We were seated in a booth, handed our menus and asked for our drink order. Pretty standard.
The decor is reminiscent of a classy strip joint back before my time. The walls are lined with old photos of sexy pin up girls. The waitresses wear fishnet stockings and look like they can work a pole if there was one there…not in a bad way, they were good looking is all I’m trying to say. They had a DJ mixing it up which added to the vibe, except for the fact that his transitions were less than average which then killed them vibe, but made for a good laugh and great conversation between us love birds. They also have a large pool table and fully stocked bar that we didn’t utilize but it’s there for future reference. To add to the striptease theme, a lot of the menu items had catchy names offering sexual innuendos like Threesome, Kinky Calamari and Me Love You Long Time.
Here’s what we ordered
- Lobster Truffle Mac n’ Cheese – had a few lobster chunks, but as usual for me it was better eaten the next day
- Beer Battered Onion Rings – THE BEST we’ve tasted and the dipping sauce is delish. We only had one funky looking onion ring in the whole batch, and it was the very last one. Each ring was so crispy on the outside and the onion itself was perfectly cooked. Hands down, they are the best Onion Rings we’ve had in a long time!
- Ribeye Steak for Mommy – Good…a little overcooked, but I still ate it all.
- New York Strip Steak for Daddy – I remember Daddy like his steak with the sauce
- California Merlot {Little Black Dress} they even let us split the glass for no additional charge
- To our surprise our steaks came with a garden salad and grill ready bread – both were okay, nothing spectacular about them
Here’s how it works
They bring your steak wrapped in saran wrap, then you walk over to the grill and cook away. It’s one huge grill in the middle of the seating area. It’s not like at those Korean BBQ places where you cook the food at your table, which is nice. You can add extra seasoning if you like. The great thing is that they don’t leave you empty handed for your steak to burn. There is a chart that lists the suggested cooking times for each cut of steak, and how well you want it cooked (i.e. well done, medium well, etc.).
At first Daddy was a little skeptical about this place, but once we got our steaks he was on fire, literally! He enjoyed cooking our steaks because he felt like we were in our own backyard, if we had one. In Daddy’s words, “this is a man’s restaurant.” I asked him why, “because of the women.” He said “no, because we can cook our own food on the grill.” I just agreed!
The La Jolla Strip Club has it’s on nightly specials; however for the best deal come in on Manic Mondays where you can get a top sirloin, teriyaki steak, boneless ribeye or double chicken breast with salad and grill ready bread for only $10!
I was very pleased that Daddy liked my pick! Hey I chose this place for a reason. I wanted good food, great ambiance and a new experience. We definitely give it two Pinky’s up. We recommend it for a nice casual Date Night. We”ll definitely be returning. Except, I think I’ll be cooking the steaks this time *wink!
Have you been to the La Jolla Strip Club? Tell us about your experience.
Daddy
This place is a man’s place. Giant grill, big piece of meat, what more do us guys want. I enjoyed this time but, I felt bad about the way I cooked the Mrs. steak. It’ll be better next time, if she lets me cook it.
Mommy
YES! I know, lol! I’m really glad you enjoyed this place! And…maybe I’ll give you a second chance! Haha, just kidding, I didn’t mean to make you feel bad, really. I always appreciate your efforts my dear husby!
