Good news to report: Pinky’s burn is healing well and she has nothing more than the common cold. She had a surprise visit from Mr. Needle and this time she cried for the first time. It was worth waiting nearly two hours to make sure she was okay.
Although it turned out to be a long day, Daddy and I found every reason to be thankful.
Blessings: When we arrived to the doctor’s office we were told that there would be an hour wait. We decided to have breakfast at the McDonald’s in the hospital next door. Breakfast was over so we had lunch instead. As always we took turns eating and holding Pinky. It was so heart warming to see Pinky and Daddy enjoying each others company. I know Daddy was so happy he could make her laugh.
While we were eating, I noticed another family in the corner. They had a daughter who looked like she had been receiving chemotherapy treatments. She was so young and so lively. However, I had to stop and think about the true trials and heartache that family has to encounter. Sitting right next to us was a young boy and his mother. He was in a wheel chair and seemed to have had some developmental issues. I’m having trouble writing this because I don’t really know what these children faced, and I don’t mean to sound rude or as if I was staring. In all honesty, I began thanking God for Pinky’s clean bill of health. She may be sick but it was nothing permanent, nothing we couldn’t handle.
Lesson Learned: Seeing these families at the hospital taught me a lesson. We should never take advantage of our children’s health. They are our precious angels from God and we just never know if they might be called home before us. We must learn to embrace life as all children do when they are healthy and when they are sick.
