This is from daddy’s perspective on how it went down. As usual I wake up to pinky and mommy messing around with each other waiting for me to wake up. I hear pinky laughing at something mommy was doing and that is all that it takes for me to get up. I check the time and it was 8:30am already. Her class starts exactly at 10am. I rush into the shower while mommy gets her ready. When everything is said and done we leave the house at 9:45am, luckily the place is less than 10 minutes away from where we stay.
We get to the place a little late and Joann had already started with the review from last week and we made it to the introduction and progress report. Joann went around the circle where we all sat and asked how did this past week went with our signing. It was funny and cute to hear the progress of each of the parents and babies because I find it interesting how a child can absorb and learn things so quickly. I noticed that this week some of the daddy’s did not attend this session. There were only two of us this time around and the class seemed a little small. Some of the other mommy’s and babies didn’t attend either. It was nice to have a small class this week, made the session feel more intimate with our babies.
After the introductions and progress reports Joann went into reading a couple of books that introduced and reinforced the foods that we learned last weekend. One for the books that stood out for me was the, “Hungry Caterpillar”. It has a nice story and teaches babies how to count, recognize fruits and vegetables, and teaches them about nature. Then we went into the snack song and read another book, but didn’t quite finish that one. At the end of the reading Joann introduced the “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” song and sign. She had everyone stand and participate in this one. We sang and signed this song twice to our babies. Afterwards she played the king of the world song and that’s the song that Joann normally plays to us nearing the end of the session. The king of the world song is also a good song to sing and sign to your baby.
This session seemed short not a lot of new signs were introduced just a lot of reinforcements to last week’s signs. It was a good session and afterwards pinky was so tired and just fell asleep as soon as she was in her car seat. Stay tuned for next week’s session.
