Trader Joe’s | A Family Affair

In our attempt to eat healthier as a family, we recently became loyal Trader Joe’s shoppers! Our weekly grocery shopping trips has been something to look forward to, a true family affair if you will.

We love Trader Joe’s for several reasons…

The Price Trader Joe’s prices are pretty unbeatable. Where else can you buy a good quality piece of steak for less than $6. Quality being the key word here. They sell quality and locally grown products for less. Yes there are a few items that are priced a little high, but they can all be justified. We usually spend well under $100 and if planned  well, our groceries last us a week, sometimes longer.

The Organics Trader Joe’s offers a wide variety of natural and organic products. Pinky loves  their all natural apple sauce in a a pouch. I love their cereal bars made with pure cane sugar, blueberry is my favorite flavor. Daddy recently opted to buy organic sugar and some veggie chips. They support an eco-friendly lifestyle, encouraging families to bring back their used paper bags to participate in raffles or purchasing a reusable bag from the store.

The Samples I’m a little embarrassed to broadcast this, but I really look forward to walking in and tasting their sample of the hour. Sometimes we end up buying the product because it’s so good. Our favorite sample was the orzo rice with asparagus mixed veggies. This was a meal in itself and barley cost $5. I love try before you buy marketing. It works! I also have to stop and make myself, and Daddy a cup of coffee with soy milk and natural agave syrup! It’s our little pick me up on a Sunday morning!

The Customer Service & Support The staff at Trader Joe’s are so helpful. One time, Pinky got a free pack of her favorite apple sauce just because. They are always checking to make sure we are finding everything okay and always available for questions, Lord knows I almost always have one. The ladies running the sample station are always very informative and answer my questions about their method of cooking and food preparation. They tell offer suggestions and tell me where in the store I can find it, if it’s not already stacked in front of them. In addition to the wonderful customer service, Trader Joe’s publishes their Fearless Flyer which talks about their latest products, offers even more ways to save and prepare a healthy meal. I think of the Fearless Flyer is an extension of their services.

The Prepackaged Goods I love how Trader Joe’s prepackages certain food items. It helps with portion control, but most of all it’s great for small families like ours. It also cuts down on prep time in the kitchen. As a mom, I this helps out tremendously. Anything that helps cut my time in half is a lifesaver!

The Fun Trader Joe’s is so much fun for us as a family. She loves trying to catch the butterflies that decorate the entryway and I love telling her to smell the flowers. She puts her face close to them and takes a whiff. It’s super cute! The grocery store is such a great place to teach children about several things such as counting, fruits and veggies and how to pay for groceries. We have so many videos of Pinky running down the aisle with her mini shopping cart. Here’s the most recent one, enjoy!

  1. What a cute little shopping cart! We love Trader Joe’s too – we need to go there more often though. Have you heard of the Trader Joe’s cookbook that has recipes using only ingredients found at Trader Joe’s?

  2. Ooohhh! I haven’t heard about that cookbook. I’ll have to find it. Unless you know where I can find it 😉 I can’t get enough TJ’s! Thanks for reading!
